Leaders are made, not born.

This is a very common misconception and many believe that some are natural born leaders. Not so, and the perfect example we have in the scriptures is the life of MosesWhen the Lord revealed Himself to Moses in the burning bush to deliver the children of Israel away from the clutches of Pharaoh, Moses felt ill equipped and made many excuses as to why he was not the man for the job. We see how Moses went from the man with many excuses to the man of God that stood in the presence of Pharaoh, full of authority and demanded that his people be let go. Moses did not arrive at that place overnight; in fact, it did take him some time. Moses was made a leader through training and instruction by the Lord.

Moses also arrived as that leader through discipline, a willingness to submit to God’s authority, a willingness to change and to be corrected. A true leader is willing to change and to go through the discipline. This process can be difficult at times, but worth the price.

Leaders have a following.
If you don’t have anyone interested in you and what you have to offer, then you are not a leader. If you are a leader, people will follow you and be drawn to you naturally, not forcefully.

Leaders set the example for others to follow.
Whatever you do, people will be watching. Those around you will want to flow as you do, receive revelation as you do and minister as you do.

A true leader is secure in himself and stands in authority and anointing.
The true leader is secure in what the Lord has placed in him, and not making excuses for himself or apologizing for his presence. When he speaks, he speaks as one having authority.

Leaders take control
If there is a situation that is out of hand or apparently getting off track, the leader will gear the people back into the right order.

A leader is responsible for his actions and of those under him.
If a leader under you makes an error, the true leader will take responsibility for that mistake and both will learn from it.

A leader will have a clear goal, a clear direction and lead those under him to follow.
Whatever plan the Lord has given you, you will be able to follow through with that vision and get those under you excited about what the Lord has shown you. In addition, the leader will be able to finish the job and not get distracted from the goal that the Lord has shown him.A leader is willing to give all he has.
Jesus poured out everything He had and withheld nothing. As leaders, we ought to do the same. Pour out all that the Lord has poured out into you, after all, it is not ours to keep, but ours to give.

A leader is not someone who imposes his or her will on others, and attempts to take control.

There is a difference between control and authority. Authority is given, control is taken. A leader will not bully or manipulate others to get his way or make a point. The spirit of God is loving and kind, not pushy and forceful. Finally, the true leader should be able to step away from his ministry and hand everything over to someone else just as Jesus did, and have it continue to grow and prosper.
