What is your Motive?

In reading through my Fiction 101 Lecture Series from Randy Ingermanson, the lesson mentions that your characters needs a motive to do what he or she is doing.

Motive.  For some reason I got stuck on that word and could not move on.  It was not like I was reading the Bible. When that happens to me, and I end up meditating on that word and look it up in my Strongs Concordance.  But for some reason I could not get past that word motive.

I then began to ask myself, what is my motive for writing?  What is my motive for doing what I do?  I had to ask myself some hard questions.  Is it recognition, do I desire to be famous?

It’s good to do a heart exam every once in a while, and see where I stand.  It keeps me in balance.    Maybe God was just asking me where I was, but I feel a release to go on with what I am doing. Maybe I needed a pause, but whatever the reason was, it was a good heart check.

What is your motive today?

A great thought to ponder Yvette for any of us that writes. Sometimes I feel like there is no point in writing if no one will read it but then God reminds me it not about human recognition, but His glory. Sometimes He has to remind me of this again from time to time. I really wish I could learn lessons the first time around!

Thanks for the link to your other blog. I did not know about it. I’ve added to my reading list. Thanks!

    I agree Robyn,
I wish I could learn the first time around as well. Often times I am a slow learner, but as I get older, I like to think that I am maturing as well!
    Blessings to you!
